Materuni Waterfall and Coffee Tour Day Trip

TRIP OVERVIEW

Materuni Waterfall is in a small village called Materuni, where the Chagga people live. It is just 15 km from Moshi Town and is the last village before Kilimanjaro National Park. The waterfall is big and powerful, making it a great place to visit in Tanzania. If you are coming from Arusha, the trip takes about 2 hours. From Moshi, it’s only a 30-minute drive.

Materuni Waterfall & Coffee Experience: A Day of Adventure and Culture

In the morning, our English-speaking guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to Materuni Village. The last part of the drive is exciting, as you’ll travel on a small, bumpy road with beautiful forest views. When you arrive, you’ll register at the village office, and your adventure will begin.

The Materuni Waterfall is about a 40-minute walk from the starting point. Cars can’t reach it, making the trip even more fun! As you walk, your guide will tell you interesting stories about the Chagga people, village life, and the plants and animals in Materuni. The views are amazing, and if the sky is clear, you might even see the top of Mount Kilimanjaro.

When you reach the waterfall, you’ll be amazed—it’s 80 meters tall! There’s a natural pool at the bottom where you can swim, so bring your swimwear. If you’re feeling brave, try getting close to the waterfall. The strong water creates a windy effect—are you ready for the challenge?

Lunch and Coffee Tour Time

After taking in the beautiful scenery, you’ll walk back to Materuni Village with your guide, where a delicious traditional Chagga lunch will be waiting for you. You’ll also get to try local banana beer—a unique experience you won’t want to miss!

After lunch, the coffee tour begins. You’ll learn how coffee is grown, dried, roasted, and prepared. You’ll even get to help grind the beans, a process traditionally done with singing and dancing to Chagga songs—a fun way to experience the local culture.

Once the coffee is ready, you’ll enjoy a fresh cup of your own brew!
